And to make sure you know, they do manufacture other foods, and have to do it by regulations……
They cannot mix the vats with different types of dog food, The FDA has strict regulations on this………The ingredients would not be as what is said on the bag if they put the all the different kinds together to make it and bag it…..
They do have to keep the mixing vats separate and each product bagged according to the ingredient labels.
So, it not make a difference if the vats were side by side as long as the good is kept separate and bagged separate…
And in most cases, each product is housed and manufactured in separate warehouses………
I feed Taste of the Wild and it is a great dog food, I do not think they would put the crap into the good, it would not pass the FDA standards of what they claim is in the bag.

Arthritis in Cats Pain Relief Treatments
Cat Arthritis - What are the symptoms and how can you help your pet.
Cat arthritis is a common problem in elderly cats. Knowing how to spot the symptoms and how to look after your stiff legged pet will help to keep your cat comfortable and happy in the old age.
Arthritis in an elderly cat is as common as it is in an elderly person. Just like humans their cartilage wears out and becomes thin allowing for bones to rub together causing inflammation and pain.
Knowing if your cat has arthritis is something that only a vet can accurately diagnose however there are various symptoms that might lead you to suspect that your cat is feeling their age and a little creaky. It may become noticeable that your cat starts to walk with stiff legs and becomes more and more reluctant to go outside, preferring instead to sleep more and generally be less active. Picking up your cat may also become something that you do less as they tend to cry out as they are lifted, this could be due to pain in their joints.
If your cat is diagnosed with arthritis there is unfortunately no cure for the condition, but there are medicines that can be given which will ease the inflammation and pain for your pet. Your vet is likely to prescribe one of the NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) that are similar to the human drug ibuprofen; as well reducing pain they will also slow the progression of the illness.
As a cat owner it can be difficult for us to see our pets in discomfort and not being able to get around as much as they used to. The desire to want to provide your cat with as much help and support to cope with the arthritis and through their old age is natural and luckily there are a few things that can be done to make your pets life a little more comfortable.
Making sure that your home is cat friendly and that it is easy for your arthritic cat to get around is probably one of the easiest things you can do. Make sure that their bedding is placed on a low surface and that it is easy to climb into. The bed should also be well padded to make it as comfortable for old bones as possible, there are even special orthopaedic cat beds available that help to distribute body weight so that joints are not under any pressure.
Make sure that litter trays do not have high sides, which would be difficult to climb in and out of and place all food, and water bowls on the floor in a safe area where the cat will not be disturbed. Even floor surfaces should be made easy to walk on. Polished floors can be slippy and difficult to walk on with stiff legs; placing mats down in areas where your cat normally spends their time is a good solution.
A cat with arthritis will need special food to meet their dietary needs, which will help support their system to fend off illness and to keep their bones as strong as possible. If possible home prepared cat food is the best option as it allows you to only feed your pet the best food without any of the synthetic preservatives found in commercial food. The types of food which would help your pet are fresh meat, raw vegetables with added pet vitamins and daily supplements, but it is always best to check with your vet to make sure that certain foods are ok to feed to your cat.
If preparing your own homemade cat food is not for you, there are plenty of top quality cat foods available on the market that is suited for the elderly cat. However do check that they do not contain ethoxyquin preservatives, BHA and BHT nitrates, as these over time can be harmful to your arthritic cat.
Keeping your cat as active as possible is also to be encouraged with a cat with arthritis. They will not want to do much and so will require some gentle persuasion on your part. Keeping them active is important for two reasons. Firstly an inactive cat is prone to put weight on which will increase the pressure on their joints. Secondly it will help to keep the joints mobile and not to stiffen too much. Even a very gentle game of chase the string or find the treat once a day may make all the difference for your cats long term mobility and health.

Why It’s Important - ‘best By’ Date on Pet Foods..
A recent article posted on The Consumerist website brings up a very good point (and lesson) that pet owners should take note of…
The article comes from a pet owner whose Yorkie became ill, and after a couple of days in the vet’s office, the owner looked at her Eukanuba canned food and realized it had expired 3 years ago. When she checked the cupboard she discovered several other cans of dog food – all recently purchased at PetCo – had expiration dates from 2004.
What happened to this pet owner (and pet) can easily happen to anyone. How many times have you purchased something and never looked at the expiration date?
With pet food – somewhere on the can or bag, usually on the side or back of the bag – is the ‘Best By’ date. With most of the manufacturers that I have spoken with, this date does NOT mean the food is officially expired – it just means that the food does not provide the nutrition as stated in the Guaranteed Analysis. The ‘best’ nutrition for your pet has expired – but again in most cases – per what the manufacturers tell me – the food is still ‘good’.
Shelf life is one of the questions I ask manufacturers about and provide in Petsumer Report. It varies greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer. The shelf life of dry pet foods can vary from 4 months to 3 years – canned and/or pouched products vary from 1 year to 5 years. Treats usually have the same shelf life as the manufacturer’s dry food – but just to keep things confusing, that can vary too. The ‘Best By’ date provided on the food – does NOT tell you how old the product is – it does NOT tell you when the food was manufactured. It only tells you the date that particular manufacturer has determined the food no longer provides the pet with the proper nutrition. While some ingredients in the food might still provide adequate nutrition – other ingredients have faded over time.
All pet foods that are naturally preserved begin to lose their nutritional value almost immediately after they are made. This is the drawback to natural preservatives (but the ONLY drawback – you ONLY want naturally preserved pet foods and treats for your pet ). So the challenge is to find a pet food that is very fresh. Our friends at AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officials – rule makers of the pet food industry) have made that a little difficult for pet owners – adding to the challenge. Pet food manufacturers are not required to put the date the pet food was manufactured on the bag or can – ONLY the date that particular manufacturer has determined the food no longer is ‘best’. As I stated above – it varies a great deal from product to product – manufacturer to manufacturer.
So here’s what you can do to assure your pet is eating ONLY fresh food – providing the best that product offers…
Call the manufacturer and ask them what the shelf life is for their dry foods and/or canned foods. Let’s say ABC Pet Food Company tells you that the shelf life of their Premium ABC dry foods is 18 months and their Premium ABC canned/pouched foods is 2 years. With that information – you then look at the ‘Best By’ date on the product. As an example, if the best by date on the dry dog food you are considering says June 2008 – knowing that ABC told you 18 months for dry food, you would know that the food was made in January of 2007. Using today’s date – October 20, 2007 – this would tell you this particular bag of ABC dry dog food is 10 months old.
With a canned food – the ABC canned cat food best by date is also June 2008. This would tell you that this can was made in June 2006 and thus it would be 14 months old in October 2007.
Most of the time, when pet owners look at the ‘best by’ date and they see June 2008 – they think ‘this is good – this food still has 8 months until it expires’. I was guilty of this until I learned the differences too. But the bigger picture needs to be explained.
Using my above examples – I would NOT purchase a dry dog or cat food that was already 10 months old. Ideally – dry foods should be four months or less old and you should use them within a two month time frame. Again, with any naturally preserved dry product – the nutritional value starts to deteriorate almost immediately. Fresh is best. I would recommend purchasing and using the food within six months of manufacturing. Storing the food in an air tight container will help keep the food fresher after opening the bag – providing your pet with more quality nutrition. With canned products – it’s a different ballgame. You definitely want to purchase and use the food before the best by date expires – but the quality of the nutrition is protected by the canning process. Any unused opened can must be covered and stored in the refrigerator and used within a couple of days.
Call your pet food’s manufacturer and ask them the shelf life of dry foods and canned foods. I know it’s a chore, just one more thing you have to do and look out for – but it is very important. You want what you pay for – quality nutrition for your pet – and a fresh product will provide that (of course you have to pay attention to ingredients too – but that is a whole different subject!). Get yourself into the habit of looking at the ‘Best By’ date BEFORE you purchase the pet food and or treat. Your effort will not only provide your pet with better nutrition – getting yourself into the habit of looking at the expiration date could just save you from an experience similar to the pet owner mentioned in the beginning of this article – and a sick pet.

Canine Arthritis Proves Problematic for Older Dogs
Family dogs are treasured members of the family. They are like trusting babies, and they are usually treated with great care. Suddenly, one day, you might notice something a little different about your best friend now that he’s gotten older, though. He may not be moving quite as quickly as he used to, or maybe he’s reluctant to use one of his legs. Does he struggle to climb the stairs or get into the car? Does he flinch when you want to touch him? It may be that he’s suffering from the painful onset of canine arthritis, and he just can’t tell you.
Arthritis is much the same in dogs as it is in humans. Canine Arthritis is caused by inflammation in the joints. There are two major types of the disease: degenerative and inflammatory. Degenerative arthritis is also known as osteoarthritis. In dogs with this form of arthritis, the cartilage that cushions the joints wears out or is damaged allowing the bones to rub together painfully.
Joint Wear Causes Arthritis Symptoms
Canine arthritis is more likely to strike older dogs. It comes on as the joints experience years of stress during which the joints just plain wear out. Due to the fact that dogs live shorter lives than humans do, their arthritis symptoms will develop much earlier in their lives.
The second kind of arthritis a dog can suffer from is inflammatory joint disease. In this case, your dog develops severe inflammations in response to an infection in his body. You can tell he’s suffering from this type of arthritis if he whimpers or yelps when touched. It’s hard to live with knowing he is in such pain. Luckily there are medications available which will relieve his pain. You can ask your vet about prescription meds, or you can find others available at a pet store.
If your dog has put on a few pounds with age, your vet will probably want to put him on a special diet that includes lower calorie foods. The more weight he puts on, the more strain on the joints. Exercise is another good way for your dog to fight the symptoms of arthritis. You can have surgery done, too, but be prepared to pay a great deal for it.
If your dog is getting older, you need to watch him for signs that he is becoming arthritic. If you think he is, make an appointment with your vet where you’ll be able to discuss the best way to keep him as comfortable as possible.

Not So Smelly Dog Grooming
Do you like the smell of dirty dog? Do you like seeing your pet infested with fleas or ticks? There is a high chance that you do not. The answer to this problem is to make sure your pet undergoes regular dog grooming.
It is not always easy to do, especially if your pet is not used to taking baths or having its hair cut but it is essential to maintaining a healthy coat and body.
Dog books and experts agree that dog grooming is an excellent way to foster a bond between pet owner and pet. It allows consistent contact and it helps assure the pet that its needs are being met in a safe way.
It keeps the pet’s appearance healthy and make sure that allergies in the home are kept to a minimum. The grooming starts with the basics. You do not have to have expensive equipment nor do you have to always turn to be an animal wiz.
Basic dog beauty treatments begin in much the same way that you, yourself, spruce up. Start with an adequate bathtub with a hose attachment to the shower. Pets Mart sells a variety of shampoos and conditioning agents to help the grooming along.
Make sure the bathtub area is cleared of all clutter. If this is your puppy’s first bath then it might not be quite as calm as you would want.
Start the shower, making sure the water temperature is tepid to warm, and make sure that your supplies are very close. The best idea is to have a dog training collar attached to a short leash and have the leash held by someone else while you do the dirty, or rather clean, work.
Dog grooming starts with the bath. After the bathing is done and the pet is dried off then the entertainment begins.
Many dogs, after a bath, will run through the house rubbing on the carpet and will give a free show of their exuberance. After they have gotten over the rush, calm them down by gently brushing out their coat.
It will remove any loose hair or dander still remaining. You can then clip their nails if you are feeling comfortable enough to do this.
If you own a breed of pet that requires a special hair cut or is exceedingly large, consider taking them into a local dog groomer who has the facilities to take care of your pet.
Dog grooming is a lot of work at times but it is worth it to see your pet healthy and have a beautiful coat. You will not have to worry about matted hair or the smell of a dog that has rolled around in something that it should not have.

Who do you believe, science or the Bible? And, where is the tree of life?
Science is now sayng that man has a life expectancy of about 120 years, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_lifespan. In addition, the Bible in Gen 6:3 also states that man shall live “one hundred and twenty years.” Who should I believe, science or the Bible?
But the real question is, where is the tree of life? According to the Bible, Gen3:22, if we “take also of the tree of life, and eat” we will live forever.
Can we find the “tree of life” in a glass of red wine, a bottle of vitamins, or in the food that we eat?
If I find the “tree of life” and eat of its fruit, does that mean I will stop aging, or regain a youthful appearance? How young could I possibly become?
And what about my dog? I love my dog. I would want her to live forever as well.
Please help me to understand the science of the Bible.
